Disney revealed four major Disneyland Resort projects during its "Horizons: A Carousel of Progress" showcase at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday, August 15, 2026, including the ride type for the long-awaited Coco attraction and a firm 2028 opening year for two new Avengers Campus rides.
The timing matters. Disneyland's yearlong 70th Celebration wrapped on August 9, 2026, just days before the showcase, so this was the resort's pivot from a birthday party to a construction plan. Here is every Disneyland Resort announcement from the showcase, and just as importantly, what Disney still has not said.
The biggest Disneyland Resort news of the day: Disney confirmed that the Coco attraction under construction at Disney California Adventure is a boat ride, and that its story picks up a year after the events of the film.
This is the first Coco ride at any Disney park. It was first announced at D23 2024, and construction began in fall 2025 near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier.
Here is what Disney revealed about the ride:
The reveal followed a live performance of "La Llorona" by Grammy-winning band Los Lobos. The project was presented by Ali Rubinstein, senior vice president of Global Creative and Development Studios, and Emily O'Brien, portfolio executive creative producer for Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort.

Still unanswered: Disney did not announce an opening date for the Coco ride. Treat any date you see floating around as a rumor until Disney says otherwise.
Disney confirmed that the Avengers Campus expansion at Disney California Adventure will open in 2028, and that both of its headline attractions will debut that year. The expansion doubles the size of the land, and Disney says the land "will soon reconnect with Cars Land." Imagineers are also working with local artists on more than 20 murals.
The segment was presented by host John Stamos, Walt Disney Imagineer Brent Strong, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
Guests enter as new recruits and get a pre-mission briefing from Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani, then set out to reassemble the Avengers and battle King Thanos. The ride blends massive physical sets with large-scale media, and the route takes guests to Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City.
Four stars are reprising their roles on screen:

The second attraction puts guests in two-person gyro-kinetic pods that roll along a track and are then lifted by a giant robotic arm to simulate flying like an Avenger. On-screen instructors include Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.
Together, they will be your flight instructors as you discover what it's like to train like an Avenger.

Our team enjoys being part of the Disney family because that means we can tell stories in so many ways that go well beyond the big screen. Plus, we've been able to create some storytelling that you can only hear about and experience with the Disney parks.
— Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige
For context on how long this has been in the works: the expansion was first teased at D23 2022, detailed at D23 2024, and finally given its 2028 opening year at D23 2026.
In the closing moments of the showcase, Thomas Mazloum, chairman of Disney Experiences, confirmed that Tomorrowland at Disneyland park will be reimagined. The project is being overseen by Imagineer Emily "Emo" O'Brien.
Disney says the reimagining will honor the legacy of the original land while reimagining its future, with "new attractions, new open spaces, new places to dream about the future." The goal is to restore the optimism behind Walt Disney's 1955 pitch for a "vista into a world of wondrous ideas." The reveal was paired with the tagline "Yesterday's tomorrow, today."
The Hollywood Reporter quoted Mazloum on why this particular Tomorrowland is the one getting the attention:
"This particular Tomorrowland here at Disneyland was the one that was originally thought of and designed by Walt himself."

Still unanswered: Disney announced no specific attractions and no timeline for Tomorrowland. There is no word yet on what stays, what goes, or when work begins.
Host Neil Patrick Harris introduced the nostalgia block, and this is the section with actual dates attached. Three beloved Disneyland Resort shows return in 2027:
"I have so many great memories under the stars with my kids. I wish I could go back in time to relive them all over again." Neil Patrick Harris

One planning note worth flagging: two of these land in February, which is an off-peak window. That favors locals and Magic Key holders far more than destination visitors.
Rounding up the Disneyland Resort news from D23 2026:
Two of the four headline projects still have no dates attached, so the next real milestone will be permits, walls, and construction photos rather than another announcement. We will update this post as Disney shares more.
