Universal Studios Hollywood has confirmed that a Killer Klowns from Outer Space haunted house is coming back for Halloween Horror Nights 2026. It is the third time the cult classic has taken over a maze in Hollywood, and it joins a lineup that has already grown to seven houses ahead of the event's September 3 opening night.

The return was reported by Inside Universal on August 4, 2026. Universal's own teaser for the house warns guests to "try not to become the cotton candy-covered snack of some seriously unfriendly visitors from worlds unknown."

What the Killer Klowns House Is Based On

The maze pulls from the 1988 horror-comedy from the Chiodo Brothers, a low-budget cult favorite that has aged into one of the most recognizable Halloween properties around. In the film, a race of alien clowns lands in the small town of Crescent Cove and starts harvesting residents into cotton candy cocoons.

That premise gives the house a very different tone from the rest of the 2026 slate. Where Hellraiser and Evil Dead Burn lean into dread and gore, the Klowns bring bright colors, popcorn guns, and a sense of humor to the scares.

Things to watch for based on the film and past versions of the maze:

  • Cotton candy cocoons holding the Klowns' victims
  • The big top spaceship that carries the invasion to Earth
  • Jumbo, the towering lead Klown from the movie's finale
  • Weaponized popcorn, shadow puppets, and balloon animals
  • A recreation of Crescent Cove as the town falls

This Is the Klowns' Third Trip to Hollywood

Killer Klowns is not new to the event. According to Inside Universal, the property previously appeared at Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood in 2019 and 2022, which makes 2026 its third run.

Repeat houses tend to draw mixed reactions from regulars, but the Klowns have been one of the more popular returning mazes at the Hollywood event. Universal has not said whether the 2026 version is a straight repeat or a new build, and that is one of the bigger open questions heading into opening night.

The Full Halloween Horror Nights 2026 Hollywood Lineup So Far

With Killer Klowns added, Universal Studios Hollywood has now confirmed seven haunted houses for 2026. Here is everything announced to date:

  • Killer Klowns from Outer Space
  • Sinners, set in a 1930s Mississippi juke joint overrun by Remmick's vampires
  • Stranger Things 5, based on the show's final season
  • Hellraiser, drawn from the original trilogy
  • Evil Dead Burn, based on the newest film in the franchise
  • Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness
  • Dead, Deader, Deadest, a zombie house built around a failed miracle drug

Beyond the houses, Universal has confirmed a FORTNITEMARES scare zone and The Purge: Dangerous Waters, a stunt show built on the Purge franchise. The Terror Tram is expected to return as well, though its 2026 theme has not been revealed.

More Details Are Coming at Midsummer Scream

Universal is expected to share more about the Killer Klowns house during its Halloween Horror Nights panel at Midsummer Scream, the Halloween convention returning to the Long Beach Convention Center from August 7 to 9, 2026. Universal has used the panel in past years to reveal maze details and show off scenic pieces in person.

The Klowns Are Invading Orlando Too

Hollywood is not the only park getting Klowns this fall. Inside Universal notes the property is also part of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando, where the Klowns turn up in the Downtown Clowntown scare zone rather than a house.

That split gives each coast a different take: a walk-through maze in Hollywood, and a street-level takeover in Orlando.

Halloween Horror Nights 2026 Dates and Tickets

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood runs on select nights from September 3 through November 1, 2026, with gates opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, including single-night general admission, Day/Night tickets, Frequent Fear and Ultimate Fear passes, Universal Express, and the R.I.P. Tour. Current pricing and available dates are on the official Halloween Horror Nights site.

Universal has not confirmed the final house count for 2026, so more announcements are likely before opening night.
