Universal Studios Hollywood is bringing a brand-new Fortnite scare zone to Halloween Horror Nights 2026. Universal announced the new zone on July 22, themed to Fortnitemares, the popular in-game Halloween event, and it drops guests straight into a haunted version of the battle royale.
The scare zone is called “Freaky Fields.” It’s a Halloween-themed battleground that has been overtaken by a sinister force, and it debuts at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort as part of Halloween Horror Nights 35.
A scare zone is an outdoor area of the park where costumed characters lurk in the fog and jump out at guests as they walk through. For 2026, Universal is turning one of these areas into a living, breathing corner of Fortnite.
The theme pulls directly from Fortnitemares, the game’s annual Halloween takeover. Instead of watching it on a screen, guests walk through it in person, dodging creatures and trying to make it out alive.
Universal describes Freaky Fields as a high-stakes, ever-evolving battleground. Here’s what guests can expect inside the zone:
Halloween Horror Nights runs on select nights, and the two coasts have slightly different start dates:
At Universal Studios Hollywood, the event typically kicks off around 7:00 p.m. on event nights. Because it runs on select nights only, it’s worth checking the official calendar before you plan your visit.
Fans who want to take a piece of Freaky Fields home have options. According to Laughing Place and Inside Universal, a new Fortnitemares merchandise collection launched July 23, 2026, both in the parks and online at ShopUniversal.com. The lineup includes:
The Fortnitemares scare zone joins a lineup that is already stacked with big-name horror. Confirmed haunted houses at Universal Studios Hollywood so far include:
Universal has said that additional houses, shows, and scare zones will be revealed as the event gets closer, so the full 2026 map is still coming together.
According to Inside Universal, the Fortnitemares “Freaky Fields” scare zone is the first Fortnite attraction to hit Halloween Horror Nights, and it lands at a time when the game’s crossovers are everywhere. Pairing Fortnite’s Halloween event with Universal’s biggest scare season is a natural fit, and a first for the franchise.
We’ll update this post as Universal reveals more details about Freaky Fields and the rest of the Halloween Horror Nights 2026 lineup.
