Disney is putting 50 real, park-used Disneyland and Walt Disney World props up for public auction during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and the list is far weirder than anyone expected — a Haunted Mansion skull, a Tomorrowland trash can, and a chopped-up Big Thunder Mountain ride car are all on the block. Every single lot opens at just $1 with no reserve, which means the bidding is about to get wild.

Everything You Need to Know About the Disney Experiences Auction

The sale is officially called the Disney Experiences Auction – Rare and Remarkable Finds, and it's run by Heritage Auctions. Online bidding opened Monday, July 20, and the live auction takes place Sunday, August 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM PT on the Backlot Stage at the Anaheim Convention Center during D23.

Here's the part that has collectors talking: all 50 lots open at $1 with no reserve price. You do not have to be at D23 in person to bid — anyone can register and bid online through the Heritage Auctions website. Attendees at the event get an extra perk, a walk-through preview showroom (accessible via standby queue) where they can see the items up close before bidding.

The live auction will be hosted by Bret Iwan, the current official voice of Mickey Mouse. And if you miss out in August, Disney has confirmed a much larger follow-up auction with more than 1,500 lots scheduled for October 23–25, 2026.

Yes, There's a Skull — From the Haunted Mansion

The single strangest lot might be the skull. It's the jack-in-the-box skull that pops out of a wrapped gift box in the attic scene of Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland — the seasonal Nightmare Before Christmas overlay that runs every fall and winter.

It's not the only spooky lot, either. The Haunted Mansion is well represented, including the "Phase 4" Medusa portrait glass slide from the mansion's famous changing-portrait sequence, and a two-piece mummy sarcophagus from the graveyard scene. For anyone who has ever wanted a genuine piece of Disney's most beloved haunted house, this is about as close as it gets.

A Tomorrowland Trash Can Is Genuinely Up for Auction

If the skull is the creepiest lot, the trash can is the funniest. Disney is auctioning an actual park-used Tomorrowland trash can — the sleek one with the chrome "T" logo — straight out of Disneyland. There's a second can in the sale too: a green trash can from Disney's Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World, in service from roughly the mid-1990s through the 2020s.

It sounds like a joke until you remember how obsessed fans are with park theming down to the smallest detail. Disney's trash cans are photographed, cataloged, and loved by collectors. Starting at $1, do not be surprised if these climb into serious money.

An Actual Big Thunder Mountain Ride Car (Now a Bench)

You can bid on a real Big Thunder Mountain Railroad train car — sort of. Two of the mine-train cars from Magic Kingdom are in the auction, both retired from the ride and repurposed into furniture.

One of them, Car 502, has been heavily modified with a faux track base, a Cinderella Castle icon, and custom "Big Thunder Iron Works" boiler plates. The other, Car 105, keeps much more of its original ride appearance with polished edges. Either way, you'd be taking home a piece of one of Disney's most famous roller coasters.

The ride-vehicle theme continues with a sea lion vehicle from King Triton's Carousel at Disney California Adventure — the carousel that was later re-themed into Jessie's Critter Carousel — giving fans a chance to literally own a ride vehicle they may have ridden as kids.

Jim Henson's Final Work: Muppet*Vision 3D Props

Some of the most meaningful lots come from Muppet*Vision 3D, the attraction that was Jim Henson's last creative project before his death and which closed in June 2025. Up for bid are the faux-marble Miss Piggy figure that "held up" the theater ceiling, the matching Kermit the Frog figure that sat above the theater doors, and the wooden crate used to hand out 3-D glasses in the pre-show.

More Wild Lots Hidden in the Catalog

The 50 lots are packed with oddities beyond the headliners. A few that jump out:

A mummy prop from the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland. A ghost-corridor chair and pre-show library table from the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure. The Spaceship Earth exit sign from EPCOT. A D Street store display made entirely out of Vinylmation figures. "It's a Small World" park-used flower decorations. Anniversary pieces including a Disneyland 60th Anniversary drawbridge banner and a 50th Anniversary "Happiest Homecoming on Earth" plaque. Plus an oversized Magic Key store display and a rococo-style armchair and footstool from the retired Mad T Party.

Every one of them starts at $1. What they'll actually sell for is anyone's guess.
